Okay, Ninth Graders, now that you have successfully found the classroom blog, you must contribute a comment. Please leave a comment about what kind of reading material you like the best, and why. If possible, add an image to show us what you have in mind.

These pictures show just a few of my favorite books. I like to read gardening books and classic literature about interesting people. Gardening and being out in nature restores my soul, and reading about unusual human interactions is a fascinating glimpse into someone else's world that helps me learn more about the human condition. What do you like to read, and why?

  3. I like to read PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) books, adventure, and mystery books. My favorite books are Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Student, Success, Secret (Student, Success, Secret is a title of a books name). I also like a book called The Wanderer by Sharon Creech. Student, Success, Secret book tells how to be successful in the future and gives you tips about how to succeed in school. The Wanderer is a true story about a teenage girl that is going on a trip to meet her grandpa, and there are many dangerous things that happen along the way. The good thing is that her dad, uncles, and cousins are with her. Another book that I liked so much was The Giver, because The Giver tells about the peoples perspective about life without color. When a boy that sees color is trying to make people understand that there is color, and color is beautiful, then he has a big adventure, and he has so many problems to face along the way. I like to read books so much, because I believe books are peoples friends. I also liked reading The Fault In Our Stars, because there is a girl who is extremely sick, and the book tells how she lives her life, and tries to stay alive as long as she can. I love reading books, and these are some of my favorite books, and what type of books I like to read.

  5. Currently, I do not read much. However, some of my favorite books include Rangers Apprentice, Fahrenheit 451, and Animal Farm. I enjoy these books because they are closer to realistic fiction, which allows me to imagine but still allows me to relate to the characters. Fantasy is too wild and usually is not relatable, and non-fiction doesn't allow me to imagine. Even though I do not read often, I still enjoy a good read and cant wait to see what new books I will explore.

    1. You have good reading choices Ali, but Animal Farm isn't close to realistic fiction, it's about how animals have a revolution on their farm, kick out their farm owners, have their own kind of government called Animalism. The book is a allegorical novel, as the story uses characters and events to symbolize the American Revolution, but that doesn't make it a realistic fiction book.

    2. You seem to have a clear understanding of yourself as a reader and how reading fits into your life. I hope that you will continue to discover new ideas through the world of books!

By the way, Safwan, Animal Farm is more often compared to the Russian Communists and their revolution when they overthrew the czarist government. Even though the characters are animals, Orwell has patterned each character after real people's actions during the war. Using personification, he creates an "us against them" mentality in his characters, which is very human-like. Therefore, it is a fantastical world of talking animals with a pessimistic view of humankind.

  6. Currently, I also do not read a great deal. However, previously I've read realistic fiction. Some books that I have indulged in recently are Fahrenheit 451, The Mortal Instruments, and The Fault in our Stars. I enjoy Realistic Fiction because I can relate to the characters and the situations they overcome. Although most of it is fictitious, its not overwhelming. I also enjoy a realistic fiction with a realistic story behind it and have an important memo to be able to take away something from the book. I can't wait to find the next book that meets my interests and criteria.

  7. In general, my reading activity is on and off. There are some times I am really interested in reading and other times I don't have any interest whatsoever. Although, the times I am interested I tend to gravitate towards the non-fiction side of the spectrum. I enjoy realistic fiction and historical fiction, and some dystopian here and there. As I got older, I gradually lost interest in genres such as fantasy. I tend to prefer books that have a satirical type of fair, such as George Orwell's Animal Farm.

    1. I also enjoy reading historical fiction. I suggest you read the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, they are very descriptive and will give you a picture of life in the past.

    2. It is interesting how our tastes in reading material changes throughout our lives, depending on our shifting interests during different phases. Even our enthusiasm and interest in the task of reading itself waxes and wanes as we discover other activities that take up more of our time. I hope you never lose your passion for discovering more about the world through the outlet of reading!

  8. My favorite reading material would be sport nonfiction books such as Michael Jordan, Who’s the best in basketball, and Cr7. These books are amazing because it shows the reader the struggle that those athletes went through to get to who they are today. I also like reading historical fiction books such as to kill a mocking bird and killer angles. These books grab your attention from the first couple of pages.

    1. I find those non-fiction books to be very interesting as well. Although I don't know much about sports, I am always fascinated by the struggles professional athletes endure to reach the height of success. Historical fiction novels are a great choice, too. Most authors within this genre do a great deal of research to provide very accurate details and portrayals of another time period, so we get to learn more about history and enjoy an interesting plot at the same time!

  9. I do not entirely agree with the idea of a "favorite" reading genre, although I disapprove of fantasy and traditional fiction due to the “stalling” methodology used to relay the same end result. But even then, it's not like I hate them; They just are of less appeal to me as they do not have any real implications in life... Just their overall lessons. I mean, you might as well summarize the whole writing piece into a single unornamented sentence with a straight-forward connotation. I guess it’s just more more suitable for children.
Recently, however, I have been reading with-in the field of science fiction because of the many recent advancements in fringe “sciences,” in which, without their presence, would’ve kept the books very boring.
Otherwise, it really depends on the writer’s vocabulary usage, grammar, grasp of his topic, and his filling of gaps with special attention to the details that keep the story complete.

    1. Everyone is different in their selection of reading material, so it is great that we have so many genres from which to choose. It seems you have thought a great deal about your reading interests. I am looking forward to learning more about what you like to read, and I will try to not refer to them as "favorites" if that is your preference.

  12. Most book genres do not interest me except a few. Biography and autobiographies like the story of my inspiration and role model of my life Muhammad Ali the greatest boxer of all time. Or another example The story of Michael Jordan and the struggles he went through to become the greatest basketball player ever existed in history of mankind.

  13. Biographies and autobiographies fascinate me as well. We have so much to learn from the inspiring stories of others. Whether they are famous sports heroes, historical figures, or just everyday people, real life is often more amazing than fiction!

  14. I love to read fiction books. One of my favorites is To Kill a Mockingbird. The reason why it's my favorite book is because it took place in Alabama during the Great Depression , and because of this, it mention real life examples of what people went through such as using potatoes to pay for a birth of a child. The author of this book is Harper Lee. My favorite character is Atticus because he stood up for blacks such as Tom Robinson who was accused of rape. I am very exited to read Harper Lee's new book Go Set a watchman. I hope it is a good as the first book she wrote.
